REDDOMAIN 6112m

Situated in the western part of China - Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province, and deep within the Gongga (Minya Konka Range), this stunning peak is a favourite among climbers in the region.

The Route

BC: 4600 meters

BC is at the foot of the mountain. BC is a large, alpine area between two glaciers and opposite a glacial lake.

Route to C1:

Walk up the ridge and scree slope to the small glacier at the base of the mountain. Small chance may have to put on crampons for a short section of the climb. We will set up camp on or around that glacier depending on the conditions.

C1: 5200 meters

C1 to C2 is the second steepest part of the climb. We will traverse up the ridge following the best snowline. Small chances of some rocky terrain depending on the amount of snow in the season. Fixed lines st places will be put in and technical traversing is needed.

C2: 5700 meters

C2 to summit: This is the steepest and most technical snow traverse line. We will slowly approach the best snowline with fixed ropes to the top. possible windy conditions and snowfall are often the case.

Summit: 6112m

Needed Experience

We recommend that you have at least three 5000m + peaks under your belt to attempt the climb. This is a strenuous climb that needs a solid physical foundation in order to reach the top.

Safety

Since this mountain is a regularly visited peak and the corresponding hiking routes nearby are well maintained and have frequent travelers, there is access to rescue and supplies. The region is located nearby several small towns and villages that have medical facilities. In addition, the local minorities are very welcoming to foreign climbers.

As this mountain is at a relatively high altitude, we will take several days before the climb to acclimatize to the altitude and get used to the environment. We will have supplemental oxygen at base camp, a satellite phone, and an extensive medical kit.

In China, there is no helicopter rescue. This is unfortunate and requires that evacuations be performed overland. If on the off-chance this is required, an evacuation is fortunately fairly straightforward. From base camp, the climber is transported by camel or donkey a short distance to a four-wheel drive jeep which can come relatively close to our base camp. We have a well-established system in place to deal with evacuations.

Needed Gear

As with all 6000m mountains, there s a full gear and technical list below. Please contact us with questions about your gear or possible gear rental.
