Beginner Mountaineering
The how-to-start mountaineering course which allows you the confidence to not only climb peaks above 5000m, but equip you with the skills to handle and understand gear, terrain, and basic snow travel. You will also learn techniques that help deal with acclimatization and how to be aware of your surroundings on big snow-capped mountains. The climbs are entry-level big mountains and usually end of the course with the ascent and the chance to use all you have learned to get to the top.
This course gives you a solid foundation to start your journey into mountaineering.
Many mountains involve rock scrambling and climbing, either up faces or along rocky ridges.
Alpine Rock Course
The aesthetics of alpine rock climbing cannot be beaten. The variety of climbing, the remoteness, and the beauty make these places some of the most spectacular anywhere. LeadClimb Alpine Rock program gives you the skills needed to access this high and wild rock. You will learn techniques for climbing efficiently along rock ridges and up 3rd & 4th class rock terrain, how to evaluate rock quality, place climbing protection, rope management, build belay stations, and how to use natural anchors. On the last day of the program you will do a real climb along a rock ridge to the summit of a small and beautiful peak.
By the end of this course, you should feel confident in the alpine rock environment, able to safely climb through simple sections of rock in the mountains, and able to follow a leader on more complicated alpine rock routes.
Glacier Travel and rescue
For those more experienced mountaineers who wish to reach peaks that require glacier travel to get to. This course covers everything from understanding snow and analyzing the snow levels on the route, and weather patterns in the mountains, to rescue of possible fallen climbers in crevasses and/or dealing with difficult rescue points en route.
Advanced Alpine Climbing Program
This course provides you with the skills and knowledge to be able to climb some of the most stunning alpine rock routes in the world. This program is for those that have completed the Alpine rock course
or have a solid background in traditional rock climbing and can build traditional rock anchors. You will learn about how to efficiently transition between 4th and 5th-class terrain, route finding in complex terrain, time management & planning, mixed climbing with ice tools and crampons, multi-pitch rappelling, and more.
This program provides you with the skills and techniques to climb together with other competent partners on many technical mountains and alpine rock routes.

Beginner Rock Climbing and Climbing Movement
New to climbing? Well, then this is the best place for you to be to start the journey. In these courses (often combined together for 5 days), you will learn all the basics of climbing techniques, using and understanding climbing gear, building and taking down anchors etc. It is the most comprehensive course that allows you to get started in climbing and be confident with your ability and even when going climbing with others - you may have a clear sense of your own gear, use, and safety. Route difficulty is usually from about 5.7 and upwards.
Lead Climbing
Once you have become competent in climbing and you have the ability to climb grades of at least 5.10 and above, you may consider the transitional move into leading routes and improving your overall climbing ability. In this course you will learn to plan your gear and understand quick draw placement on the route as well as set up a solid anchor; cleaning the anchor and any gear left on the route.
Multipitch Climbing
Finally, you ability and confidence on single-pitch routes have paid off. The next step is to work on longer multi-pitch routes. In this course, we tackle the planning and different ways of handling a multi pitch route - so that you have the ability and courage to head out and tackle any routes that excite you!
Traditional Climbing 5 days
Trad multi-pitch 3-4 days
Traditional Rock Climbing
This entry-level course into the world of trad climbing covers all the essentials you need to start a transition from sport climbing or if you are just starting out in the world of climbing and are more interested in this way of climbing.
The course covers basic techniques for climbing, anchor building, and use of trad gear, like cams and nuts etc. as well as managing your gear on your harness. Since this way of climbing relies on lead climbing - you will have to lead for the last day of two of the course to get the real feel of this style of climbing.
Traditional Rock Climbing - multi-pitch
This training is for those who can already lead traditional rock routes or have completed LeadClimb’s Trad rock climbing course and have crack climbing experience.
The feeling of ascending a huge rock wall is amazing. This training epitomizes LeadClimb’s learning through doing philosophy. Each day is spent climbing traditional multi-pitch routes with your instructor. Instructor to student ratio is 1:2 or 1:1. You will learn techniques for climbing safely and efficiently up multi-pitch rock routes, including using traditional rock anchors, two-rope systems, how to protect traverses, rigging multi-pitch rappels where there are no bolts and basic self-rescue.
Crack Climbing Technique Clinic
Ready to crack climb! Cracks are often very striking lines, so it’s no surprise that many classic routes follow crack systems. This training teaches you the techniques of crack climbing from finger, hand & fist jams to foot jams to body movement and more. You will learn the principles of torque and opposition in the placement of feet and hands in the crack.
Jamming your hands and feet into cracks can be difficult (and painful) at first, but great fun, and addictive, once you learn the techniques. Learning to crack climb opens up more route opportunities with different techniques than just sport climbing. Also, crack climbing can improve your performance in sport climbing by giving you more techniques to use.
Anyone of any climbing ability can attend this training.
Note: Many folks confuse crack climbing with traditional climbing. Crack climbing is a technique, while traditional climbing is a type of climbing where you place your own protection in the rock (as opposed to sport climbing where there are bolts). Traditional climbing does not require you to use crack climbing technique.

Lead Ice Climbing
For the transition to the next step of leading an ice pitch - we handle this in steps. Starting off with buildings ice anchors and then learning to clip the rope in to mock leading on a backup rope. the final phase is leading your own pitches on some easier routes to get the full feel of climbing on lead.
Multipitch Ice Climbing
Once the basics and skills listed above are well practiced, the next step is to do multi-pitch routes. the valley at the 4 sister's range has various multi-pitch routes from easy to quite challenging. You will also learn how to climb with a partner and deal with the rope skills needed to belay and work within the small climbing team. Thus making your overall experience as an ice climber well-rounded and complete.
Introduction to Ski Mountaineering 5-7 days
Intro to Ski Mountaineering
Introduction to Ski Mountaineering (AT)
Ready to get away from crowded ski resorts? Want to feel the freedom of riding down giant slopes of untracked powder snow? The places you can explore in the backcountry seem endless. You get away from people and submerge yourself in nature. Because it is the backcountry, skiers must be ever vigilant about avalanche conditions.
This program is an introduction to backcountry skiing. You will learn how to “skin” up snow slopes – a method of walking uphill with your skis on, how to read terrain and techniques for skiing fresh snow (most ski resort snow is packed down and groomed), and participate in an avalanche rescue clinic.
There are no chair lifts in the mountains, so yes; climbing uphill with your skis takes a lot of work. But the thrill of finding fresh snow and amazing views make the climb well worth it.
Although it’s not necessary, it’s best to be a solid downhill skier to attend this training as you will get more out of it.
LRR Light Rope Rescue
L1
L2
L3
LRR L1-L2)
Light Rope Rescue
There are many forms of technical rescue depending on the type of rescue you need to carry out and the environment you are in. Rescue gear is very specific and often heavy-duty and heavy-weight. There may be rescue situations where you do not have the correct equipment or you have to go lightweight, such as in the mountains, rock climbing accidents, or a natural disaster where you must walk-in a long distance to reach those in trouble. Often, in these situations, you are using improvised rescue systems.
LeadClimb has developed a light-weight rescue system suitable for such situations. Whereas this system was initially developed for use by mountain guides, it can be adapted and used in any scenario where you need to perform technical and vertical rescues.
Much rescue equipment is specific to a certain task. If you are in a rescue situation and find yourself without that specific piece of equipment (it becomes lost or damaged), you will need to the same task another way. Much of the light-weight rescue equipment is multi-use and can be used in substitution for other equipment. As such, having the skills of light-weight technical rescue can be extremely useful in many different situations.
LRR is a series of classes and assessments/tests that you must take in sequence starting with L1.
L1 covers the fundamental skills of light-weight rope rescue – equipment, knots, release of loaded systems, lowering methods, pulley hauling systems, rappelling, rope ascension, belay stations. You learn and master each of these individual skills.
LRR L2: Incorporate skills into a complete system
L2 incorporates each individual skill into a coherent system, where you learn how to use each skill in different situations and transition between using different methods. Also, in L2 you are required to effectively back-up your systems.
LLR L3: Apply rescue in real outdoor setting
You must take an assessment test before attending L3 to make sure you are familiar enough with all the rescue skills and methods.
For L3 you learn how to apply light-weight rescue in real outdoor/wilderness settings. New material includes the use of rock protection (i.e. Cams, pitons) and trees.
There is a final test which you must pass to be fully-certified in LLR. Also, once you complete this final test, you may consider becoming an instructor of LLR.
